University of Regina

The University of Regina, founded in 1974, is a younger institution, but it has come a long way in under fifty years. In its short time as an institution, it has firmly established itself as an innovator and an outlier: it was the first university in Western Canada to offer co-op studies. With 15 faculties and academic departments, the school’s offerings are comprehensive. With a broad student population comprised of international students, Canadians, and aboriginal students, the school encourages working together in forging future opportunities through dozens of programs and countless internships. Even with this decidedly vocational focus, the university still maintains a reputation for being a research leader and an environmental steward. The result has been the preservation of a stunning campus landscape complete with a lake and interconnected buildings to help students manage the prairie winter.

UNIVERSITY OF SASKATCHEWAN

Located in Canada’s breadbasket, which boasts nearly 50 percent of the country’s arable land, The University of Saskatchewan has historically been regarded as an agricultural university. While this is still true today, the U of S is a leader in many other forms of science and technological research. For example, “The Canadian Light Source” Canada’s national electron accelerator research facility is here. The Vaccine and Infectious Diseases Organization, an internationally-known and respected developer of vaccines and therapeutic technologies is also on the U of S campus. Uof S also ranks highly in Canada for Engineering and Environmental Science. And it’s not just a research intensive university: smaller class sizes mean closer working relationships with an award-winning faculty. The U of S campus sits on the east bank of the Southern Saskatchewan River in the sweeping city of Saskatoon.
